I love how the Holy Spirit uses unique moments to speak to us, humble us and reveal our attitudes as He clearly convicts us by His word and His voice… If we let Him!
Have you ever missed it?
Today I played drums in church for the first time in 10 years. Hammer time! While laying down a solid ‘4 on the floor’ ‘Animal’ style rock beat … The drum skin of the kick/bass drum broke and split in half … skills uh?. I was extremely frustrated while trying to continue playing through the worship set. I did everything I could including moving the bass drum beater to the outer rim to try to get some sound out of it. Pretty soon the frustration turned into an attitude, “That’s it, I’m here to help, I haven’t played drums for 10 years, I told them to change the skins… This is the last straw etc…”. My attitude stank. The pastor came to give the msg, and then it hit me, the first scripture hit me straight between the eyes:
“[We pray] that you may be invigorated and strengthened with all power according to the might of His glory, [to exercise] every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance) with joy” (Colossians 1:11 AMP).
The split drum skin just revealed the wrong attitude that was already lurking there. I wasn’t being “invigorated & strengthened with power for His Glory”. The music and even the frustration of the moment should have been used as a tool of expression to overcome and lead myself and others into worship. I missed it by being distracted by myself instead of enduring with patience in joy for the glory of God.
When was the last time you were faced with a frustration (small like mine .. or significant)? What did you do with it?
We are to be strengthened by His Glory to endure in all, in patience and joy, using every circumstance to serve the ultimate purpose > Glorify His Name.
alive + awake + responding now
There has to come a moment in every persons life when they really question why? …”Why I am on the planet?” ..”Why was I born?”. Hopefully it becomes more than a question, but it becomes a turning point, a crossroads at which we decide, we seek + we discover.
For me that moment came when I lost close to everything I was passionate about… Failed dreams, relationships dead, drowning in debt, dignity lost, heart-broken, health in jeopardy + stressed to the max. At the lowest season of my life I reached out to the living God + truly surrendered. Since that pivot point I’m discovering daily why I’m alive … really alive.
I was born to worship. I was born for connection, for relationship. Firstly with the Creator, Good Shepard, + Extravagant King Himself… then with those He leads me alongside + divinely surrounds me with.
We all worship something.. weather we realize it or not. Second by second we give our affection, our focus, our attention, our blessing + approval to something or someone… that’s worship. The problem is in our innate need to worship we give our adoration to false idols… exalted through the system of this world + promoted by the adversary of mankind. It’s the ultimate distraction to being alive + why we were created.
In leaving behind the trash + false idols of this world… I’m discovering this real, amazing, + mind blowing relationship with the Most High. + The life of Christ, (the man who is God) … is not only my finest example, but must define my very existence. ‘It’s no longer I who lives, but Christ that lives in me’ (Galatians 2.20)
You see … I am a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). As soon I realize this + it drops 8 inches from my head to my heart… The previous dullness, religion + desert-like living is gone. I believe now, + I’m desperate for more wisdom, understanding + personal connection with this real, grand + love breathing God.
‘The Stirring in me’ is the sound of a new day… it’s the sound of a new creation… it’s the sound, the cry + the bold output of a life surrendered to Christ … born to worship. I’m alive in Chirst, I’m awake on the inside, + I don’t want to miss out … so I’m responding now.
Don’t settle for less in your life: seek, search, discover, respond + call on the name of the Lord.
He will stir you.
alive + awake + responding now
Are you alive ? Are you awake ? Are you responding now ?
“Do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11)
The bell is ringing …
